Choose between a 4-mile race or a 1-mile fun run

Gulf Shores athletic news

Flora-Bama’s annual Freedom Run is back for another patriotic celebration along the Gulf Coast. The family-friendly event will take place Saturday, July 5, at the state line on Perdido Key. Runners and walkers of all ages are invited to take part in either a 4-mile course or a 1-mile fun run. The day promises plenty of red, white, and blue spirit, along with music, medals, and community pride.

This year's event will be held rain or shine. Race day packet pickup takes place Saturday morning from 6 to 7:30 AM. Early packet pickup is available Friday, July 4, from 4 to 6 PM at the Flora-Bama tent stage. Participants are encouraged to sign up early online but may also register on race day.

The 4-mile run and 1-mile fun run both begin at 8 AM, with the 4-mile walk starting at 8:02 AM. The 4-mile course will start on the north side of Perdido Beach Boulevard, head west toward the Perdido Pass Bridge, loop underneath, and return on the south side. The 1-mile route goes half a mile west, then returns to the Flora-Bama.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the AHERO Foundation. AHERO helps veterans and first responders heal through outdoor events and recreational therapy. Their mission is to support recovery from trauma and help reintegration into daily life.

The first 400 participants to register are guaranteed a free t-shirt. The first 400 finishers will also receive a medal. Awards will be given for the top three male and female finishers by age group in the 4-mile run. First-place awards will go to male and female winners by age group in the 4-mile walk.

Additional plaques will be awarded to the top overall male and female finishers in both the run and walk. Following the race, a celebration with breakfast, draft beer, soft drinks, and live music from Wes Loper will take place in the Flora-Bama tent.
