Citizen reports seeing large bundle on the beach

Gulf Shores drug news

The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office was contacted regarding a possible bundle of drugs that washed ashore on the Ft Morgan Peninsula in unincorporated Baldwin County, AL. on Thursday. BCSO Coastal Enforcement Units arrived and verified that a bundle consistent with illegal drugs was at the location.

The bundle was transported to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Command for further analysis. It was determined that the bundle contained 50 individually wrapped kilos of cocaine, weighing approximately 110 pounds. The Department of Homeland Security, Homeland Security Investigations was contacted and will continue with the investigation.

According  to the DEA, the street value of the drugs would be over one million dollars.

It is not uncommon for additional bundles of illicit contraband to surface, and Sheriff Lowery asks the community to report any bundles immediately to local law enforcement. "We ask the public not to open bundles or packages, as they could contain hazardous chemicals or dangerous drugs."

The BCSO would like to thank the caller for reporting this bundle so that law enforcement could begin an investigation into the source of the drugs. For additional information contact Captain Daniel Steelman.
