According to the Entertainment Software Association over 190 million people in the U.S. play some sort of game each week and many daily. The Foley Public Library will host its first gaming convention this month. The free event aims to bring together local gaming enthusiasts and families. Organizers expect the convention to celebrate gaming culture in the community. The library hopes to make this an annual tradition for residents.

The Foley Gaming Con will take place on Saturday, September 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will be held at the Foley Civic Center, located at 407 E. Laurel Ave.

Library officials have planned various activities for different age groups. Attendees can participate in Dungeons and Dragons campaigns and chess tournaments. The event will also feature cosplay contests where participants dress as their favorite characters. Younger children will enjoy a special Story Time designed just for them.

Several gaming stations will be set up throughout the venue. A Pokémon trading card station will allow collectors to trade and play. Warhammer and Magic: The Gathering tables will host organized gameplay. Craft stations will give attendees hands-on creative activities to enjoy.

A mobile gaming truck called Games on the Go will park outside City Hall. The truck can accommodate up to 28 people for electronic gaming experiences. This addition will provide modern gaming options for convention visitors.

Vendors will set up booths to sell gaming-related merchandise and collectibles. Food vendors will also be available outside Foley City Hall during the event. These additions will help create a festival-like atmosphere for families.

People interested in attending can find more details on the library's
website.. Organizers can also be reached by email at foleygamingcon@gmail.com for questions.
