The City of Foley has been chosen as one of five locations in the United States to host a new USA Pickleball tournament. The Select Series Gulf Coast event will take place at the Foley Event Center from August 23 to 25.

Pickleball, the fastest-growing sport in America for the past three years, has seen a surge in popularity, with celebrities like Tom Brady and LeBron James investing in professional teams. The sport's appeal is spreading rapidly across the country.

Lance Cowart, Managing Director of National Championships at USA Pickleball, highlighted the importance of expanding access to high-quality competition. The Select Series was created to offer sanctioned events in diverse regions, making it easier for players nationwide to participate.

Foley was selected due to its successful history of hosting pickleball events. The city has become a key location for the sport in the region, previously hosting the USA Pickleball Atlantic South Regional in 2021.

David Thompson, Foley’s Executive Director of Leisure Services, emphasized the city’s commitment to fostering a welcoming environment for all athletes. The Foley Event Center, which opened in 2017, was designed with pickleball in mind, making it a prime venue for tournaments.

Thompson praised the community’s hospitality, stating that Foley’s special atmosphere and commitment to visitors make it an ideal sports destination. He expressed excitement about hosting the Select Series and continuing to grow the partnership with USA Pickleball.
