Foley, Ala. — (GSN) —  Foley is set to improve more than four miles of city streets after the City Council approved the annual road resurfacing plan. The plan calls for bids to resurface 4.76 lane miles of roads citywide. If additional funding is available, the city may also resurface an additional 1.54 miles as an elective project. The approval marks another step in Foley's ongoing effort to maintain and upgrade its road infrastructure.

The City Council approved the resurfacing plan in July 2026. Officials will solicit bids from contractors to carry out the work in the coming year.

Among the streets included in the plan are Lakeview Drive, from Carnoustie Drive to Baldwin County 12, and West Peachtree Avenue, from North Cedar Street to Alabama 59. The resurfacing plan also includes an alley between West Orange Avenue and West Myrtle Avenue as an alternative project. The proposed area runs from South Pine Street to South Alston Street.

Mayor Ralph Hellmich said the city also plans to study the condition of alleys throughout Foley over the coming year. The city currently evaluates the condition of its streets, but alleys have not been included in that process.

"We want the alleys to be part of this," Hellmich said. "We're looking at multiple alleys all over the city. Some of them are in worse condition than others. We will be creating this alley grading system as a subset."

Hellmich said the new alley grading system would work alongside the existing street appraisal process. The move signals a broader look at Foley's overall infrastructure needs beyond paved roads.
