The 20th Annual Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival is set to take flight this week at OWA Parks & Resort in Foley. The event, running from May 2 through May 4, features more than 50 hot air balloons from across the United States. This marks the fourth consecutive year that OWA will host the festival, adding to its attractions which include an amusement park, water features, and diverse dining and shopping options.

Festival-goers can look forward to various entertainment options, including arts and crafts, children's activities, and live performances at the OWA Amphitheater. Notable acts include the Tri-City Saviors, The Funky Lampshades, and others. Additionally, attendees can experience tethered hot air balloon rides, offering a unique view from 30 to 40 feet above the ground. (These rides are subject to weather conditions and require a ticket purchase.)

The festival will officially start on Thursday, May 2, at 4 p.m., highlighted by a Balloon Glow event at 7:30 p.m. The grounds will open to the public at 11 a.m. on the following Friday and Saturday, with morning balloon flights scheduled from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. each day. WHEP Radio Baldwin 92.5 FM will provide live updates on flight plans and the best viewing spots.

Admission to the festival is free, though some activities may incur additional charges. The event supports the South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce and was recognized as the 2021 Event of the Year by the Alabama Tourism Department.
