Updated weekend forecast for the Alabama coast
Gulf Shores, Ala. — (GSN) — A developing tropical system in the Gulf of Mexico is tracking toward the central U.S. Gulf Coast, with model guidance indicating a potential landfall location west of Gulf Shores. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) and NOAA Weather are actively monitoring the system as it approaches the coastline.
Weather Forecast and Expected Impacts
- Storm Progress: Forecasts from the National Hurricane Center indicate the system in the Gulf is expected to intensify into a tropical storm as it moves north toward the northern Gulf Coast.
- Primary Hazards: Main threats across the coastal region include heavy rainfall, gusty winds, coastal flooding, and dangerous surf conditions with high rip current risks.
- Saturated Soil & Sandbag Stations: Due to ground already being saturated from recent rain, localized flooding is a primary concern. In response, several local cities and municipalities have opened sandbagging distribution areas to help residents protect homes and businesses.
53rd Annual National Shrimp Festival Status
Despite the approaching storm, the 53rd Annual National Shrimp Festival remains scheduled to proceed, according to the Coastal Alabama Business Chamber.
- Event Schedule: The four-day festival is planned for October 8–11 at Gulf Shores Public Beach.
- Organizers Monitoring Weather: Chamber leadership and festival organizers are continually tracking weather reports from official sources. Any necessary adjustments or schedule modifications will be communicated directly through the festival’s official website and social media channels.
