Gulf Shores, Ala. — (GSN) — The 2026 high school football season has officially kicked off in spectacular fashion along the Alabama coast, with both Gulf Shores and Orange Beach High Schools securing thrilling victories in their opening matches on Friday, August 21, 2026. Beyond the exciting action on the field, both programs are celebrating a new era of athletics, powered by brand-new, world-class training facilities designed to develop local talent for generations to come.
The Gulf Shores Dolphins (1-0) opened their season at home with a hard-fought 30-21 victory over the visiting Parklane Academy Pioneers (McComb, MS). The matchup put Gulf Shores' championship pedigree to the test against Mississippi's back-to-back MAIS champions.
This monumental opening win took place just weeks after the official ribbon-cutting of the brand-new, $157 million Gulf Shores High School campus on Monday, August 10, 2026. Located at Foley Beach Express and Coastal Gateway Blvd, the massive 287,000-square-foot campus features elite athletic facilities.
Meanwhile, on the road, the Orange Beach Makos (1-0) secured their first victory of the season with an impressive 24-14 non-region victory over the T.R. Miller Tigers in Brewton, Alabama. The win sets a strong tone for the Makos as they move into their Class 4A Region 1 schedule.
Orange Beach athletes are also benefiting from incredible structural upgrades. The city recently celebrated the complete opening of its new state-of-the-art, $46.1 million athletic complex, which stands as a rare and elite asset for a Class 4A high school.
With spectacular new homes, elite training technologies, and a perfect 1-0 start, both the Gulf Shores Dolphins and the Orange Beach Makos have established themselves as powerhouse programs to watch this season.
Next Friday, August 28, the Gulf Shores Dolphins will look to continue their winning streak as they host the St. Paul's Saints, while the Orange Beach Makos will play their home opener against Monroe County.
