The St. Patricks Day Tradition Began At Papa Rocco's

gulf shores event news

St. Patrick's Day is this Sunday and the Annual Pub Crawl is scheduled in Gulf Shores. Make sure to have your pinch pass color on to participate in the universal game there's no need to sign up for. A friendly “I spy” if you will, where one can go up to a perfect stranger or their best friend and give them a little pinch that, if you're lucky, won't end in a punch.

One of the larger events for the Gulf Coast celebrations is the famous Papa Rocco’s Pub Crawl. Starting at the rock with owner Bill McGuinnes and his cousins in kilts. You can RSVP here to participate.

The idea is to find someone throughout the day that does not have green on if you do, you get pinched. It’s St. Patrick's Day, an Irish-American holiday established over four centuries ago to honor Saint Patrick. The day has become one of the greenest around as streets are filled with pub crawlers dressed in kilts, often bringing their bagpipes with them to serenade the town while pubs pile in folks hopefully all wearing green.

Expect to see shamrocks all around to be offered green beer to drink and traditional plates like corned beef and cabbage and shepherd's pies to eat. There’s not a bar or restaurant in town that won’t be celebrating in some way. The only hard part is choosing the right stop or corner to celebrate at.

Prefer green bushwackers on the beach, Flora- Bama Lounge and Oyster Bar has the Dome covered with a Patty’s Day Party featuring MLC on stage with live music in every room and drink specials to tickle or pinch anyone's fancy.

With Plenty of places to choose from and more found in the Gulf Shores Event Calendar link, it's a day worthy of celebrating however one sees fit. Make sure to wear your green and not to iron your four leaf clovers, you wouldn’t want to press your luck, enjoy.

Tracking fish with sonar has been available to the public since 1948, when the famous Furuno brothers introduced the product in their native Japan. A 'salty' charter captain might add that it was Lowrance that brought it to the U.S. fishing market. But whomever you credit, NOAA has now combined it with artificial intelligence (AI) to provide better chart mapping and even fish count locations of fish in the gulf. The results could impact local fishing seasons in the future.

Coach Brewer has piloted the Dolphins bus to this place several times this season, but today a thick, milky fog has engulfed the panorama, limiting the vision of what’s ahead, save for head coach Jason Hill. He’s studied today’s upcoming events and is hopeful for the upset.
