Notice from City of Gulf Shores

gulf shores bridge news

The W.C. Holmes Bridge in Gulf Shores reopened today at 11 a.m., providing one lane for northbound and one for southbound traffic. Police officers are controlling the flow, allowing only a few vehicles at a time. Officials warn that the bridge may close again if conditions worsen.

Road conditions remain hazardous due to recent severe winter weather. The area has experienced rare and historic snowfall, with places in Gulf Shores recording 9 inches of snow, an unprecedented amount for the area.

Please be aware that road conditions continue to be unfavorable, and we expect the roads to refreeze after sunset. It will likely take a few days of sunshine and wind to fully dry the roads. We strongly urge residents and guests to travel only if there is an emergency. We will continue to provide updates regarding bridge and road conditions as new information becomes available.

Residents and visitors are strongly advised to travel only in emergencies. Authorities will continue to update the public on bridge and road statuses as new information becomes available.
