Annual event honor 9/11 victims and heroes

Gulf Shores Event News

Gulf Shores Fire Rescue invites the community to join them for their annual 9/11 Memorial Service and Stair Climb Ceremony. This event honors the memory of the 343 first responders and 2,996 civilians who lost their lives on 9/11, and pays tribute to the bravery of those who continue to defend our freedoms.

The day's events will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 8, 2024, with a beachfront memorial service at 245 West Beach Blvd in West Gulf Place. The keynote speaker for the ceremony will be Retired Army Colonel Dan Vogel of the 75th Ranger Regiment, U.S. Army. Following the memorial service, the Stair Climb will commence at 9:00 a.m. at Phoenix Gulf Shores, located at 801 West Beach Blvd. Parking for the event is available across the street at Ike’s Beach Service.

The Stair Climb Ceremony is open to participants of all fitness levels, and no gear is required. Gulf Shores Fire Rescue encourages everyone to join in this symbolic act of remembrance, emulating the climb that first responders undertook on that fateful day.

Following the Stair Climb, attendees are invited to
The Hangout for refreshments and a meet-and-greet with the firefighters. This gathering fosters camaraderie among Gulf Coast first responders and the communities they serve, ensuring that the sacrifices and unity exhibited on September 11th remain at the forefront of collective memory.

The mission of the 9/11 Stair Climb Ceremony is to honor the heroes of September 11th, support the ongoing dedication of first responders, and strengthen community bonds. Gulf Shores Fire Rescue looks forward to sharing this solemn day of remembrance with the community.
