City says the pedestrian bridge project remains on track

Gulf Shores Pedestrian Bridge Schedule

Construction on the City of Gulf Shores Pedestrian Bridge is moving forward on schedule, with steady work visible on both sides of the project. Crews are working on the bridge structure as well as nearby parking and streetscape improvements. City officials say the work is designed to improve safety for people walking in the area. The project also aims to make it easier for pedestrians to move around Gulf Shores.

On the south side of the bridge, crews have poured the foundations for both the main bridge and the elevator and stair towers. The first two vertical concrete pours for the elevator and stair tower are complete, and forms are now being set for the third pour. On the north side, all pilings for the main bridge foundation are already in place. Only one piling remains to be installed for the elevator and stair tower on that side.

City officials report that installation of the pile caps, which will form the foundation for both the bridge and the elevator and stair towers, is expected to begin later this month. These pile caps are an important step in supporting the structure above.

In addition to the bridge structure, the project includes parking and streetscape improvements on both the north and south sides. On the south side, between 23rd Avenue and 24th Avenue, utility and storm drain installation is finished. Rough grading for the new roadway segment in that area is also complete. This prepares the ground for the next stages of road and sidewalk work.

Crews on the south side have begun forming the new curbs along the updated roadway. The first concrete pour for these curbs is scheduled for next week, according to the city. Residents and visitors should expect to see ongoing curbing and concrete work throughout December. These improvements are intended to create a safer and more organized space for vehicles and pedestrians.

On the north side of the project, between 25th Avenue and Waterway East, utility and storm drain work is also complete. Construction activity there will pick up again once progress on the south side allows crews to shift more resources back north. This staged approach helps manage traffic and safety while keeping the project on schedule. The city is coordinating work so both sides advance in a balanced way.

The city expressed its gratitude to residents and visitors for their cooperation, stating, “We appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation as construction continues to improve pedestrian safety and mobility in Gulf Shores.”
