Gulf Shores Development news

A new development containing 300 multi-family housing units and commercial uses on the Foley Beach Express will be discussed at the upcoming Gulf Shores City Council meeting. The site is just north of the new Gulf Shores High School and fronts the Foley Beach Express. The land for a planned park is on the west side of the site. It is also directly north of the Auburn University Veterinary Specialists building.

The council will meet on July 7 at 4 p.m. in council chambers at city hall.

“The 300 multi-family units consist of seven, four-story buildings around a central pond and open space amenity area,” a memo from Assistant City Administrator Lee Jones states. “The commercial buildings will be located at the front building setbacks with parking in the rear to visually enclose the future road north of the development.”

To the west of the proposed site, the Alabama Visitors and Convention Bureau owns two parcels of land and has plans for building a sports tourism park accessed by Coastal Gateway Boulevard.

During the work session, the council will also discuss:

  • Appointing Spencer Cade as a supernumerary to the Board of Zoning Adjustments to fill the spot of Richard Lamar whose term ended in March.
  • Honoring two lifeguards of the month for April, Jake Heintzelman, and May, Sarah Hadder.
  • Amending the sign ordinance “to ensure compliance with the First Amendment,” according to a memo from Planning Director J. Scott Stephens.
  • Public assembly permits for the Bloody Mary 5K run on Aug. 30 starting and finishing near the Acme Oyster House on East 24th Avenue and for the Tour De Beach bike ride to benefit Multiple Sclerosis on Sept. 27-28. Headquarters for the event will be at Lake Shelby in Gulf State Park.
