A peace sign, VW beach buses, tie-dye shirts and the colored lenses on the sunglasses. These were just some of the items that defined a special period in history. It is a lifestyle that the famous Flora-Bama celebrates each year at their Sandstock party.

They remind everyone to wear your favorite “hippie” attire and head to the Flora-Bama on Aug. 10th when the famous beach bar goes back in time in a tribute to pay homage to the 55th anniversary of the Woodstock Music and Art Fair that would come to define a movement. Pat McClellan, one of the Flora-Bama partners, started the annual party and commented on it's growth. McClellan stated "seeing people of all ages dress and enjoy the music from those days is great."

Festivities begin at noon with all your favorite artists dressing up while performing renditions of their favorite songs made famous by “Creedance Clearwater Revival, The Grateful Dead, Joe Cocker, Janis Joplin, Bob Dylan and other greats from that fabulous era.

Featured artists will include The Funky Lampshades, Burnt Peaches, Johnny Hayes, BAT, Mel Knapp, Chance Neal & Emma Zink, The Big Earl Show, Paxton Peay, Unfortunate Sons, Jesse Duncan and Brittany Bell.
For more info, visit florabama.com or facebook. The Flora-Bama is located on the Gulf of Mexico at the Alabama-Florida state line.

Tracking fish with sonar has been available to the public since 1948, when the famous Furuno brothers introduced the product in their native Japan. A 'salty' charter captain might add that it was Lowrance that brought it to the U.S. fishing market. But whomever you credit, NOAA has now combined it with artificial intelligence (AI) to provide better chart mapping and even fish count locations of fish in the gulf. The results could impact local fishing seasons in the future.
