The Backbone of Gulf Coast Dining Experience

News in the Gulf Shores area

National Food Service Employee Day, celebrated annually on September 25th, is a significant event, particularly in the Orange Beach area, a prime destination for tourists. This day is to honor the dedication and hard work of food service employees across the nation, and the over 200,000 food service team members throughout Alabama, whose hard work and dedication are pivotal to the local hospitality industry and the state's economy.

Food service employees, from servers and cooks to dishwashers and managers, are crucial in delivering a high-quality dining experience. In the Orange Beach area, many food and beverage employment opportunities offer starting wages over $20 an hour, reflecting the importance and demand for skilled workers in bustling tourist spots.

Despite the challenges of long hours and often minimal pay, these workers ensure that both locals and tourists receive exemplary service and enjoyable meals. Their commitment not only enhances the dining experience but also supports the broader restaurant industry, which is the third-largest private employer in the state.

In 2023, Alabama boasted 9,750 eating locations, contributing significantly to the state's economy. The restaurant industry alone generated $12.9 billion last year and accounted for 10% of total jobs in Alabama. These figures highlight the critical role that food service workers play not just in the food industry but in society at large.

On this National Food Service Employee Day, patrons are encouraged to show their gratitude through simple acts like leaving a generous tip or a thank-you note. By dining out, customers directly support food service employees and the establishments that employ them, celebrating the hard work and vital contributions of these essential community members.

Tracking fish with sonar has been available to the public since 1948, when the famous Furuno brothers introduced the product in their native Japan. A 'salty' charter captain might add that it was Lowrance that brought it to the U.S. fishing market. But whomever you credit, NOAA has now combined it with artificial intelligence (AI) to provide better chart mapping and even fish count locations of fish in the gulf. The results could impact local fishing seasons in the future.
