Former U.S. Rep. Jerry Carl has filed with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) to run once more for Congressional District 1. Carl previously represented the District, which includes Baldwin County, before lines were redrawn in 2023.
The seat is currently held by U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise), who defeated Carl in 2024. That seat is up for grabs as Moore has announced he will run for U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville's (R-Auburn) seat.
The 'Musical Chairs' started because Governor Kay Ivey is term-limited and Senator Tuberville announced he would be taking on a gubernatorial campaign. Currently Tuberville is the odds maker favorite to win the governor's office.
Carl served in Alabama's first congressional district from 2021 to 2024 before his district was redrawn. District 1 now stretches from Mobile to the eastern State of Alabama line.

Jerry Carl narrowly lost by 3% to Moore in the last election. Carl is expected to be the front runner in the District 1 race to represent Alabama in Congress. The district has been a Republican stronghold for decades.
The primary election will be held on May 19, 2026, and the general election will be held on November 3, 2026.
