Orange Beach Parks and Recreation is inviting people 12 and older to join a special two-part kayaking class this month. The city is offering a chance for beginners and families to get comfortable paddling their local waterways. Organizers say all needed equipment will be provided, making the class an easy way for anyone to try kayaking for the first time. With spots limited for this hands-on program, registration is now open for those interested.

The two-part "Intro to Kayaking" series starts on August 13 and continues on August 27. Each session runs from 9 a.m. until noon at the Wind & Water Learning Center, located behind the Orange Beach Public Library at 26233 Canal Road on Wolf Bay. Sign-ups began on Monday, July 7 at 8 a.m. and will stay open until noon on August 12, or until all spaces are filled.

The class costs $25 per person for both sessions. The first meeting on August 13 includes a lesson about kayaking basics plus hands-on practice. The second meeting on August 27 brings everyone together for a guided group paddle. The course focuses on safety, enjoyment, and learning skills important for beginners in a calm water setting. It is designed for easy-to-use sit-on-top kayaks.

During the classes, kayaks, paddles, life jackets, and all other equipment will be provided to every participant. People are encouraged to wear clothes and shoes that can get wet and to bring a towel and a refillable water bottle. While students may bring their phones, organizers recommend using a waterproof case to keep devices safe.

For those wanting more details about these kayaking lessons, the Orange Beach Parks and Recreation team is available by email or phone. Staff can answer questions or help with signing up for the course. Organizers remind everyone that space is limited, so early registration is very important. You can also enroll and see more details

The city hopes the program will help more residents and families feel comfortable exploring the beautiful waterways around Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. With expert guidance and all gear included, the two-part class is a perfect way to learn a new skill and enjoy time on Wolf Bay this summer.
