Officials Credit Teamwork For Keeping Fire Away From Buildings
A brush fire burned through open land west of Sunrise Drive and State Highway 180, drawing a large emergency response. Fire crews moved quickly to stop the blaze before it could threaten homes in the area. Officials said about fifteen acres were affected by the fire. Responders credited teamwork for preventing property damage. Fire Departments from four local communities responded to assist the volunteers of Fort Morgan Fire Department.
The fire was reported at about 3:30 PM yesterday, Friday, January 16. Crews said the flames spread between Highway 180 and Lakeshore Drive before they were brought under control.
Emergency units from Gulf Shores Fire Rescue, Orange Beach Fire Rescue, Bon Secour Fire Rescue, and the Foley Fire Department arrived soon after the call. The Alabama Forestry Commission also assisted, along with a MedStar ambulance team. The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office handled traffic and used a drone to search for hotspots.
Officials said the quick, organized response prevented the fire from reaching nearby structures. A spokesperson noted that “no property was lost during this incident,” which they described as a major success for all agencies involved.
Community support also played a role. Members of the Ft. Morgan Ladies Auxiliary and Sassy Bass delivered food and drinks to crews working at the scene. Responders expressed appreciation for the help during the long afternoon effort.
