Local Sports Bar Nominated For Best In Nation As SEC Football Returns
News Staff • August 10, 2025
The countdown has started for real college football

For seven months each year college football fans suffer severe withdrawal symptoms while they watch and read about the new recruits their favorite team is signing. During the off-season they try to pretend that a Big 10 school winning the championship was needed for balance. But then one of their boating friends ask how their team's new quarterback will do this season. A true SEC football fan cannot leave that question unanswered.
The countdown has started and in just a few weeks college football is back! We are not talking about the UIW of Portland State games of week ZERO. We will see SEC football kickoff on August 30, with match-ups like Texas vs. Ohio State, Alabama vs. Florida State and LSU taking on Clemson. In the SEC we solve the withdrawals by mainlining the competitiveness from the jump.
So Where To Watch The Opening Week!
Some alumni might be able to get those valued tickets to the opening game, but many of us will plan a tailgate party with friends or visit a local sports bar. There are several great locations near the beach but one location is getting national attention. Flora-Bama's Ole River Grill is currently in the competition by USA Today to be voted "Best Local Sports Bar" in the nation. A sports bar on the water with 30+ televisions, great food and located in the middle of it all.

So as we wash the boat or car on August 29, we will be doing so with a smile and much anticipation for the following day. We will look through our closets and drawers to find that lucky shirt and hat, knowing the team can't win without us being dressed properly. Then on Saturday, August 30, we will thank our families for such a great summer and turn on College Game Day to make sure we are caught up on all the NCAA news and projections.
At 11 AM we will be sitting at the game, sports bar, tailgating party or in front of your new big screen to see the kickoff and begin the SEC smack talk for another five months. It is finally game time!
(Yes, we are aware that Auburn plays Baylor the night before)
