Gulf Shores Mardi Gras News

Gulf Shores, Ala. – In observance of the Mardi Gras holiday, the City of Gulf Shores will have the

following facility closures and changes to regular hours of operations:


• Police, fire, and other emergency services will remain open to ensure public safety and health.


• Administrative offices for the City of Gulf Shores will be closed on Tuesday, February 13.

Regular operations will resume on Wednesday, February 14, at 8 a.m.


• The Thomas B. Norton Public Library and the Gulf Shores Museum will be closed Tuesday,

February 13. Regular operation hours for both facilities will resume on Wednesday, February 14.


• The City Store will be closed on Tuesday, February 13. Regular operation hours will resume on

Wednesday, February 14.


• The Bodenhamer Recreation Center will be open from 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, February

13. The Cultural Center will be closed Tuesday, February 13. Regular operation hours for the

Cultural Center will resume on Wednesday, February 14.


• The George C. Meyer Tennis Center will be closed Tuesday, February 13. Courts will be open

and available for public use. Regular operation hours will resume on Wednesday, February 14.


• The pickleball courts located at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex will remain open and available for

public use.


• Republic Services Garbage and Recycling Service will run as scheduled.


• Yard debris/bulky pickup will not run on Tuesday, February 13. Routes scheduled for Tuesday,

February 13, will run on Monday, February 12.

In brief terms, GOMESA is the revenue sharing from gas and oil production leases in the Gulf waters. Four states; Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas entered into the pact in 2006.

The Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) is reminding residents that a seasonal burn ban starts today, May 1st. It will continue through the end of October. The ban is aimed at protecting the air during the warmer months. Baldwin County is one of 12 counties in Alabama included in the ban.
