Foley Event Offers Students a Look at Marketing Career Paths

Foley High School will host a Marketing and Career Day for students on Thursday, November 21. Organized with the help of The Gateway Initiative, South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce, Coastal Alabama Business Chamber, and several local businesses, the event aims to introduce students to marketing careers.


Throughout the day, students will have opportunities to learn from professionals in the marketing field. They will visit local facilities, participate in discussions, and observe marketing strategies in action. The event will help students understand the different roles that marketing plays in various industries across Baldwin County.


The itinerary will begin at Legendary Marina & Yacht Club, where students will hear from Brook Jones of Red Door Marketing and Jeremy Holcolm. Jones will explain the marketing strategies for Legendary Marina, followed by a guided tour of the facility.


Next, students will head to Springhill Suites, where Brook Jones will provide further insights into marketing practices. Tara McMeans from Design, Print, Promote will also give a presentation, followed by Jonie Flynn, who will speak about her experiences with Gulf Shores Orange Beach Tourism.


After lunch, Michelle Davis from Springhill Suites will discuss the role of lodging in marketing. The day will continue with a visit to Printing Pros, where Scott and his team will explain the importance of print in marketing and give students a closer look at their operations.


The event will conclude with a marketing scavenger hunt at The Wharf, giving students a fun, interactive way to apply what they have learned.


Marketing and Career Day will highlight the partnership between education and local businesses, aiming to inspire and educate future marketing professionals in the community.


Itinerary for Thursday, November 21st:

- 8:40 AM – Arrival at Legendary Marina & Yacht Club

- 8:45 AM – Introduction by Daniel, featuring Brook Jones (Red Door Marketing) and Jeremy Holcolm. Brook will discuss marketing strategy development for Legendary Marina, followed by a guided tour.

- 9:45 AM – Departure for Springhill Suites

- 10:00 AM – Arrival at Springhill Suites meeting space

- 10:00 AM – Brook Jones provides a recap and shares further insights into marketing practices with students.

- 10:30 AM – Presentation by Tara McMeans, Design, Print, Promote

- 11:00 AM – Talk by Jonie Flynn, highlighting her experience with Gulf Shores Orange Beach Tourism and marketing in tourism

- 11:30 AM– Lunch (students to bring their own lunch; speakers provided for)

- 11:50 AM – Michelle Davis from Springhill Suites speaks on the lodging industry’s role in marketing.

- 12:15 PM – Departure for Printing Pros

- 12:30 PM – Tour of Orange Beach Printing Pros facility, guided by Scott and team, showcasing the importance of print in marketing and dividing students for a closer look at operations.

- 1:15 PM – Marketing scavenger hunt at The Wharf

Tracking fish with sonar has been available to the public since 1948, when the famous Furuno brothers introduced the product in their native Japan. A 'salty' charter captain might add that it was Lowrance that brought it to the U.S. fishing market. But whomever you credit, NOAA has now combined it with artificial intelligence (AI) to provide better chart mapping and even fish count locations of fish in the gulf. The results could impact local fishing seasons in the future.

It’s Saturday morning, the second day of the 6A Section 1 Track Meet at Saraland High School. Coach Brewer has piloted the Dolphins bus to this place several times this season, but today a thick, milky fog has engulfed the panorama, limiting the vision of what’s ahead, save for head coach Jason Hill. He’s studied today’s upcoming events and is hopeful for the upset.

A decorated urn containing human ashes washed up on Gulf Shores beach this past week, starting a mystery that local police have now solved. The container was discovered by people walking along the shore on West Beach on April 17. The urn had no name or identification on the outside.
