The Orange Beach Surf Rescue (OBSR) team has named Samuel Pelt as their 2024 Lifeguard of the Year, recognizing his dedication and commitment to the safety of beachgoers along the shores of Orange Beach. The award celebrates Pelt's extraordinary service, extensive hours of vigilant patrolling, and his ongoing efforts in training new members of the lifeguard team.

Pelt has become a familiar and reassuring presence on the beaches of Orange Beach, demonstrating both a passion for the job and an exceptional ability to lead. His consistent performance, strong work ethic, and willingness to mentor rookie lifeguards have made him an invaluable part of the OBSR team. Beyond just saving lives, Pelt's contributions to lifeguard training have helped foster a culture of safety and preparedness that ensures both residents and visitors can enjoy the beach with confidence.

"Sam exemplifies everything we stand for at Orange Beach Surf Rescue," said Beach Safety Division Chief Brett Lesinger. "He's got an outstanding sense of duty, combined with a natural ability to train and inspire others. His commitment to keeping our community safe is unmatched."

In addition to his role as a protector of the coastline, Pelt is also known for his work in providing educational outreach on beach safety, ensuring that swimmers and beachgoers are well-informed about potential hazards like rip currents and marine life. His proactive approach has made a significant difference in reducing incidents on Orange Beach's busy stretches of sand.

This year's Lifeguard of the Year award also came with a uniquely crafted trophy, created by local artist Kerry Parks. Parks work reflects both the coastal beauty of the Orange Beach region and the dedication required to be a lifeguard. The award, which has already been widely admired, represents the respect and gratitude the community feels toward Pelt and the entire OBSR team.

Pelt, in a brief statement, expressed his appreciation for the recognition and credited his fellow lifeguards for their teamwork and shared dedication. "This is an honor that I share with every member of the team. We are all out there to make sure everyone stays safe and has a great day at the beach. I couldn't do it without them," Pelt said.

The recognition of Lifeguard of the Year is an annual tradition for OBSR, celebrating individuals who go above and beyond to ensure public safety. The residents and visitors of Orange Beach expressed their thanks to Pelt and the entire Orange Beach Surf Rescue team for their tireless efforts, particularly during the busy summer months when beach attendance is at its peak.

Congratulations to Samuel Pelt, Orange Beach's 2024 Lifeguard of the Year, for his outstanding dedication, leadership, and service to the community.
