Lady Makos dominate New Brockton in postseason play

Orange Beach Sports

Orange Beach, Ala. – (GSN) – The Orange Beach Lady Makos advanced to the second round of the Class 4A state playoffs with a 10-0 win on the road at New Brockton on Tuesday night. The No. 2-ranked Lady Makos scored early and often, with Gami Ausmuth scoring four goals en route to the blowout win. The home game highlights a whole day of postseason play at the Orange Beach Sportsplex with both the baseball and softball teams in action.

Orange Beach will return to the home soccer pitch at the Sportsplex tomorrow, Friday, May 1, taking on No. 9 St. James at 5:30 p.m. in round two. The winner of this game will head to the final four in Huntsville on May 6 to take on the winner of the St. Luke’s v. the No. 5 Westminster Christian v. No. 6 Oak Mountain-Montgomery Academy winner at 7 p.m.

A win would give Orange Beach girls' soccer its first trip to the state tournament. Others scoring goals for the Lady Makos were Maggie Hart with 2 and solo scores by Kinley Webb, Piper Leiendecker, Layne Redmond, and Addie Davis.

Friday will prove to be a busy day at the Sportsplex with the Class 4A Area 1 softball tournament starting at 10 a.m. with St. Michael’s v. Satsuma and play continuing all day in the three-team, double-elimination tournament. The top two finishers will advance to the state tournament.

State tournament baseball action will start at 5:30 p.m. with Orange Beach taking on Bibb County in a doubleheader to start a three-game series. The second game will be at 7 p.m. and if the teams split, a third game to decide the series will be Saturday, May 2, at 1 p.m.

If the Makos advance, next up in another three-game series would be the Munford-Houston Academy winner, with the location of that round to be determined by the outcome of the May 1-2 games.
