The Orange Beach Varsity Makos faced the Curry Varsity Yellow Jackets on Thursday evening in Oxford, Alabama, and triumphed, securing an epic fifth consecutive state softball championship. This latest victory ties an Alabama state record for most consecutive titles, further solidifying Orange Beach’s legacy as a powerhouse in high school softball.

The Makos’ victory also came with national significance. The team is currently ranked third in the nation and are the defending national champions. Their exceptional performance this season — including defeating five top 20 nationally ranked teams — has placed them among the elite programs in the country.

During the championship game, the Makos clinched the title with a commanding 9-2 victory. They overcame an early Curry lead with a potent offensive performance and dominant pitching from KG Favors. Katie King was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player for her clutch hitting and aggressive base running.

Curry took an initial lead in the top of the first inning with a solo home run. However, the Makos swiftly responded in the bottom of the second. Kaitlynn Robertson's double kicked off the offense, followed by a crucial sacrifice fly from LC Robbins, with each play driving in a run to give Orange Beach the lead.

Curry managed to tie the score at two in the top of the third, but that would mark the end of their scoring efforts. In the bottom of the fifth, Orange Beach surged ahead with four pivotal runs. Daigle Wilson's sharp single drove in a run, followed by a clutch two-run double from Jayde Palmer. Taylor Poland's groundout brought in another run, establishing a comfortable 6-2 advantage for the Makos.

In the circle, KG Favors delivered a masterful performance, pitching a complete seven innings and shutting down the Curry offense with poise and power. Offensively, Katie King and Jayde Palmer led the charge with two hits each. Teagan Revette and Palmer each contributed two RBIs. Ava Hodo drew two key walks, part of the team’s total of five. King also stole two bases, showcasing her all-around athleticism.

Throughout the tournament, Orange Beach outscored their four opponents by a staggering 40-2. In regional and championship play combined, the Makos outscored opponents 96-5, highlighting their dominance in every aspect of the game. The team wrapped up their season with an outstanding 48-2 record.

Their offensive strength was unmatched, with the Makos launching an incredible 72 home runs over the course of the season, including 22 in a single extended weekend.
