Orange Beach Middle and High School has been recognized as one of Alabama’s safest schools, receiving the 2024 Safe Schools Award from the Alabama Attorney General’s Office. The honor highlights the school’s commitment to safety through strong security measures and collaboration with local agencies.

The award was announced as part of the Attorney General’s Safe Schools Initiative, which evaluates schools on their ability to implement effective safety protocols, emergency preparedness, and partnerships with law enforcement. Six schools across the state, including Orange Beach Middle and High School, received the highest recognition.

Local school officials credit the achievement to the dedication of students, teachers, city leaders, and school resource officers. These officers play a key role in keeping the campus safe and ensuring students have a secure environment to learn and grow.

The selection process for the award included a thorough review by independent judges with experience in school safety trends. Schools were evaluated on emergency response training, security technology, mental health initiatives, and collaboration with first responders.

Alongside Orange Beach, five other schools in Alabama were honored with the award, including UMS-Wright Preparatory School in Mobile, Ladonia Elementary in Phenix City, Russellville Elementary, Cullman City Primary, and Elvin Hill Elementary in Columbiana.

In addition to the six award recipients, eight other schools in Alabama were recognized for exceeding minimum safety requirements. These schools received a letter of congratulations and a certificate from Attorney General Steve Marshall’s office.

Orange Beach Middle and High School officials say the award reflects the hard work of the entire school community. They remain committed to maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment for all students.
