Rouses Free Turkey

Thanksgiving holiday is approaching and it is time to think about the meal. Rouses Grocery Store has announced their annual holiday tradition of a FREE Butterball turkey if you purchase a Hormel Cure 81 Spiral Half ham. Now why not have both and satisfy everyone's taste.

The annual tradition, a favorite among Gulf Coast shoppers, has aimed to help families celebrate the holiday with a classic centerpiece meal without the added expense of a separate turkey purchase. Rouses has store locations in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach.

The turkey became the traditional offering at Thanksgiving because William Bradford, the governor of the Plymouth Colony, mentioned in his journal that the colonists hunted a "great store of wild Turkeys" during the autumn of 1621. This established a direct link to the original harvest feast.

So how did ham become so popular? Well we could just say "That is a southern thing" but many families prefer the ham over the turkey and the addition is growing on Thanksgiving and Christmas meals.
