Gulf Shores City Council will consider the request at regular session

Gulf Shores, Ala. – (GSN) – A new outlet for gas, pizza, and alcohol has taken over a familiar location. Casey's, a major player in the convenience store/gas station world, is now selling its well-known pizza in Gulf Shores after the chain recently bought out several CEFCO stores, including a second Baldwin location in Foley. Officials from the chain are seeking a liquor license from Gulf Shores for the rebranded store.

The Gulf Shores City Council will consider the request at its May 11 regular session in council chambers at City Hall at 4 p.m. The new Casey’s is in the southwest corner of State Route 59 and West 36th Avenue.

Casey’s is based in Ankeny, Iowa, and operates more than 2,950 stores. In addition to Gulf Shores and Foley, the chain has stores in Axis, Mobile, and Loxley.

“Casey's is renowned for their pizza — including a breakfast pizza and a taco pizza — making them the fifth-largest pizza chain in the U.S.,” according to the company website. “Stores offer fuel, snacks, and made-from-scratch pizza, donuts, subs, and more, with pickup and delivery available.”

Casey’s originally bought the CEFCO stores from Fikes Wholesale in 2024 in a deal worth $1.145 million, including the first of the chain’s stores in Alabama, Florida, and Mississippi.

During the regular session, the council will also discuss:

  • An assembly permit for the Doc’s Hot Trot for ARC’s 5K run at LuLu’s at Homeport Marina on June 20. Sign up here.
  • A liquor license for the Pinspiration Arts and Crafts Studio at 241 E. 20th Ave., Suite B.
  • Vacation of the Gulf Avenue right of way to the Gulf Shores First Baptist Church and the fees and quitclaim deed associated with the vacation. The city and church will swap some land as the fee to help the city build a new entrance to Gulf Shores International Airport’s terminal area.
  • Reappointing Mary Allison Bauer to the Library Advisory Board for a term through May 13, 2030.
  • Taking over rights-of-way improvements in the Stonehaven Subdivision, including a portion of Marble Court, Wickman Avenue, Rodger Street, and Ottoman Circle.
  • Designating an agent to receive a FEMA grant for a 100-watt generator for the city hall at 205 Clubhouse Drive. The total cost of the generator is $90,565, with FEMA picking up 90 percent or $81,508, and the city’s matching 10 percent of $9,056.
  • Declaring a 2018 Kubota tractor from the recycling center as surplus and authorizing the city clerk to donate it.
  • Buying $46,479 worth of fitness equipment from Rogue Fitness for the new gym space at the new Gulf Shores Justice Center, just south of Cotton Creek and east of State Route 59. The new space will be available to all city employees, according to a memo from Deputy Chief Joe Taylor.
