April on the Gulf Coast unfolds with a variety of events. From the beautiful white sandy beaches of the Gulf Coast to the bustling clubs for spring break. Whether it's the gatherings at local venues, or the tranquil beauty of spring nature walks, there's something for everyone this time of year.


Monday, April 1st. -
Why is everyone so tired on April 1st? Because they just finished a 31-day March, ba boom bah. Don’t be fooled Mondays at Flora-Bama are just as tremendous as the weekends. Arrive early this April 1st for a listen, laugh, and mingle with the authors starting at 6 pm. Orange Beach’s New York Times Best Selling author Andy Andrews will be one of three in attendance. Michael Perry and Austin Gray will join as part of a storytelling and humorous musical match-up. First come, first served make sure to stick around for a book signing to follow.

Tuesday, April, 2nd -
Join the Coastal Alabama Business Chamber as they 

celebrate the new Chamber member Iron Men Outdoor Ministries with a ribbon-cutting celebration! Iron Men Outdoor Ministries shares that they help “hundreds of mentally and/or physically disabled adults and children, terminally ill, less fortunate adults, wounded warriors, and children whose parents are incarcerated.” Come out to join in the celebration, the ribbon-cutting ceremony and more will be from 4 to 6 pm.

Wednesday, April 3rd -
Take part in a guided nature walk through Rosemary Dunes. The dunes are located on the Hugh S. Backcountry Trail, which is nominated for the second consecutive year for USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice “Best Recreational Trail” award category. Explore the park taking notice of all the spring awakenings along the way. Bring a pair of binoculars if you have them to seek out all the birds. Toss a journal and pen in your hike sack to document the plants, flora, and fauna you see. Thursday, April 4th -
In town for Spring break and looking for a fun family day of excitement, hop on a boat. The fun boats are an Orange Beach family fun favorite double boat extra unique dolphin cruise. Weather permitting, the boats will enter the Gulf of Mexico searching for local dolphins and other sea life. The boats will navigate the waters of the Back bays coming together port to port for an exciting water gun battle between ships. Friday, April 5th -
Spend the evening welcoming back the talented Christina Crystal to the airy local family-owned stage at Big Beach Brewery in Gulf Shores. Alabama-born and raised Crystal has performed in over 1,500 shows since the age of 17. Her voice carries the familiar sounds of her favorites, Sheryl Crow and Linda Ronstadt. Enjoy the breeze of spring while sipping on a craft beer bar. Crystal will share music we all know and love as well as some of her beloved songs such as “Dolly would you pardon me” and more. Sunday, April 7th - Join the Alabama Coastal Foundation and Hangout Music Festival as an island volunteer for coastal clean-up. This year for the annual Fort Morgan Cleanup, both parties have teamed up in an effort to gain more volunteers just like you. All participants are asked to sign up for this all hands on deck event. Part of keeping our beautiful beaches and waterways pristine is keeping it clean. Be a part of something special and meet other like-minded islanders along the way from 1-4 pm.

Tracking fish with sonar has been available to the public since 1948, when the famous Furuno brothers introduced the product in their native Japan. A 'salty' charter captain might add that it was Lowrance that brought it to the U.S. fishing market. But whomever you credit, NOAA has now combined it with artificial intelligence (AI) to provide better chart mapping and even fish count locations of fish in the gulf. The results could impact local fishing seasons in the future.

It’s Saturday morning, the second day of the 6A Section 1 Track Meet at Saraland High School. Coach Brewer has piloted the Dolphins bus to this place several times this season, but today a thick, milky fog has engulfed the panorama, limiting the vision of what’s ahead, save for head coach Jason Hill. He’s studied today’s upcoming events and is hopeful for the upset.

A decorated urn containing human ashes washed up on Gulf Shores beach this past week, starting a mystery that local police have now solved. The container was discovered by people walking along the shore on West Beach on April 17. The urn had no name or identification on the outside.
