The hamburger is truly an American icon so why not make it twice as big? With over 130 million burgers eaten each day in the U.S., sometimes you just have to make the occasion special with the large version of a legendary meal.

Today we celebrate National Double Cheeseburger day along the coast. With so many great local choices like Bleus Burger, Tacky Jacks, Sunliner Diner and the Flora-Bama Ole River Grill there is no shortage of sampling locations.

Double cheeseburgers were made famous by Bob Wian in 1937. He went on to create a nationally known chain named Bob's Big Boy. In fact, McDonalds did not add the double-meat burger to their official menu until 1965.
