Event blends fine wines, craft spirits and art

Gulf Shores Zoo Event

The Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo invites the community to an evening of wine, whiskey, and wildlife for a charitable cause. The zoo will host its “Art on the Wild Side Wine & Whiskey Stroll,” an enjoyable, sophisticated night featuring tastings, live entertainment, and one‑of‑a‑kind auction items—all while supporting animal care, education, and conservation initiatives. Guests can sample select wines and craft whiskeys, savor gourmet fare, and enjoy live music as they explore the zoo in a relaxed, adults‑only setting.

The fundraiser is scheduled for Saturday, March 28, at the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo. Tickets are $125 for general admission and $100 for zoo members.

Along with the in‑person event, Art on the Wild Side features a lively online auction that opens on March 21 and runs through March 28 at 9 p.m. Bidders can vie for spa packages, golf outings, vacation getaways, and unique artwork created by the zoo’s animal residents. These signature animal art pieces have become a popular hallmark of the fundraiser, combining creativity with the charm and personality of the zoo’s wildlife.

Throughout the evening, guests can enjoy access to the entire zoo, animal meet-and-greets, special animal training demonstrations, and more. The zoo encourages attendees to dress in safari-inspired or cocktail attire to enhance the atmosphere. Organizers say the annual event provides a unique way to experience the zoo after hours, blending fine drinks, gourmet bites, and artistic elements with close-up animal encounters and an engaging social environment.

Zoo officials emphasize that every ticket and auction bid directly supports the nonprofit’s mission. Proceeds help fund daily operations and the care and enrichment of more than 300 animals, as well as hands-on educational programs for students of all ages. Funds also support conservation efforts both on-site and in the broader community, including programs that highlight endangered species.

The theme for this year—“Sip. Stroll. Support Your Local Zoo.”—captures the spirit of the evening. Visitors are encouraged to come ready to relax, sample, and socialize amid the zoo’s scenic surroundings while making a meaningful impact on animal welfare and education. With strong community support, the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo aims to make this year’s Art on the Wild Side its most successful event yet.
