Baldwin County Announces New Athletic Game Rules For Attendees

News Staff • June 29, 2025

Rules apply to all Baldwin County public school events

As families across Baldwin County enjoy the summer break, school leaders are already preparing for the new school year. A series of safety updates will be rolled out this fall at high school sporting events. These proactive changes are not tied to any specific event but aim to improve security for students, families, and staff. The updates will begin with the 2025–2026 school year.

Starting in August 2025, walk-through metal detectors will be installed at all Baldwin County high school football stadiums and basketball gyms. Everyone attending games will be screened before entering. Local law enforcement will help monitor these checkpoints.

A clear bag policy will also go into effect. Bags must be see-through and no larger than 12 by 12 by 6 inches. Backpacks will not be allowed. All bags may be searched by event staff.

Re-entry will no longer be permitted at events. Once someone leaves, they cannot return. Entry gates will also close after the start of the third quarter or third period.

Other long-standing rules will stay in place. These include no weapons, alcohol, tobacco, or vaping devices. Outside food or drink will not be allowed. Loitering inside or outside the venue is also banned.

Items that appear dangerous or could disrupt the event will be confiscated. Anyone bringing such items will not be allowed past security screening.

Officials said these changes are just one part of a broader effort to keep students and visitors safe. Their goal is to prevent problems before they happen by planning ahead.

In a few weeks, another update will be shared about a new cell phone policy passed by the Alabama Legislature. That rule will also go into effect in the 2025–2026 school year.

Parents and families can expect reminders about these safety rules over the summer. School officials thank the community for their support and look forward to a safe and successful school year.
