Baldwin Schools Celebrate Spring Walk And Roll To School Day

The event falls on Earth Day

Students throughout Baldwin County are putting on their sneakers and getting their bikes ready for a special morning commute. On Wednesday, April 22, 2026, schools all over the county will participate in Spring Walk & Roll to School Day. The event encourages kids to walk, bike, or roll to school instead of riding in a car. It is organized by the Baldwin County Safe Routes to School Coalition, a group dedicated to making the trip to school safer and more active for students.
The date is significant. April 22 is Earth Day, making it an ideal time for students to step outside and enjoy the season. The event offers kids a chance to observe the changes happening in their neighborhoods as spring begins. It also brings together families, teachers, and community members for a shared experience that extends beyond the usual school morning.
Each participating school will organize its own Walk & Roll event, with details customized for that campus. Families and students usually gather at a designated spot within a mile of the school. From there, everyone moves together as a group, turning an ordinary commute into a community celebration.
Eight schools are signed up to participate this year. Fairhope West Elementary, Daphne East Elementary, Summerdale School, Foley Elementary, Gulf Shores City Schools, Orange Beach Elementary, and St. Patrick Catholic School will all hold their events on April 22. Florence B. Mathis Elementary will join in on May 1, 2026.
Community members who cannot walk or roll are still encouraged to show up and cheer. Organizers say that every show of support helps make a difference. Whether someone joins the group or simply waves from the sidewalk, their presence boosts the spirit of the day.
Anyone interested in getting involved can reach out to their local school for details on the specific event.
