Bridge Progress Will Close Part of Canal Road For 3 Days

Construction progress means closing Canal Road for 3 days

In recent weeks the new ICW bridge project had made tremendous progress. Local residents can now visualize how the traffic patterns will change and expedite. However, the rapid progress also mean that it is time to install some large items directly over a popular section of Canal Road.

The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) will temporarily close part of Canal Road between Orange Beach and Gulf Shores to install steel bridge girders for the new Intracoastal Waterway Bridge. This work is part of a larger project to improve traffic flow and safety in the area. The temporary closure is needed to keep drivers and workers safe while the girders are placed. ALDOT says the project is moving forward as planned.

The closure will take place from June 24 to June 26, 2025. Canal Road will be closed from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. Drivers will be detoured to County Road 4, also known as Cotton Creek Drive.

Scott Bridge Company is handling the construction. Crews will use large equipment to install the girders over the road. Signs will be posted to guide traffic through the alternate route.

This bridge project will ease traffic on State Route 59. It will also help emergency services respond faster to calls. Officials say it will be a big help during storms or evacuations.

Improving transportation will also boost the local economy. Better road connections can lead to more business and growth in the region.

ALDOT and Scott Bridge Company thanked the public for their patience.
