Foley will review several bids for goods and services bought by the city in May, including one for $340,331 for the Wolf Creek stabilization project. The award went to Streamline Environment. Another bid will be for the Park Avenue traffic-calming project. Other bids include pickup trucks and an SUV, audiovisual equipment and Park Avenue traffic-calming measures.

The city council will meet at 4 p.m. on June 16 in council chambers at city hall.

Bids awarded during May include:

• Wolf Creek stabilization project, $340,331 to Streamline Environment
• Park Avenue traffic-calming project, $90,577 to L&K Construction
• Pickup trucks for Parks and Recreation, $91,738 to Moyer Ford
• Audiovisual equipment for the city hall conference room, $47,255 to Howard Technology. The council will also take up a resolution to approve the funding.
• An SUV for the library, $41,000 to Buster Miles

During the joint regular/work session, the council will also:

• Have a public hearing and second reading of an ordinance to consider adopting the 2024 building codes.
• Have a public hearing to declare weeds at 9475 Hickory Street a nuisance and order its cleanup.
• Receive a report on expenses during May totaling $9 million.
• Hear a report on tax collections, including $3.3 million in May or about $135,000 less than 2024 and about $98,000 over budget projects. In May, the city collected $217,775 in lodging taxes or about $31,000 over 2024 and $41,000 over budget projections.
• Receive a report from Community Development showing the city issued 25 permits for single-family residences with a valuation of $7.8 million and one new commercial permit for Stowaway Storage with a valuation of $801,600.
• Hear a report from the police department showing 275 inmates were processed through the city jail in May, for a total of 1,303 for the year. During the month, police recorded 27 controlled substance arrests and responded to 12 calls for shoplifting, 10 for simple assault, domestic violence, 10 for death investigations and nine thefts. Officers were called out 2,467 times in May.
• Receive a report from the fire department showing crews responded 50 times to assist EMS crews, 36 times to assist an invalid, 26 times for traffic accidents with no injuries and 19 with injuries. Crews were dispatched but canceled en route 22 times and were called out a total of 234 times.
• Have an introduction of an ordinance to approve traffic calming measures for the southeast quadrant of the city, including standardizing speed limits. The effort will concentrate on an area south of U.S. 98, north of East Azalea Avenue, east of State Route 59 and west of South Pecan Street.
• Hear a request for a liquor license for Mi Pueblito Taqueria at 315 S. McKenzie St.
• Consider a resolution to amend the pay classification plan for Community Development.
• Consider a resolution appointing an elections manager and absentee elections manager.
• Consider using money from the opioid settlement to buy two Lucas chest compression devices and two TruNarc handheld narcotics analyzers for $79,449.
• Consider a change order on a generator project for Community Development, adding $750 to the $40,000 cost to remove and dispose of the old generator.
• Consider approving a donation from the Friends of the Library to purchase an Artome projector for $8,803.
• Consider approving the application for the 2025 Community Foundation of South Alabama grant to focus on “supporting mental and physical health for individuals and families,” according to the foundation’s literature.
• Discuss approving for surplus of two pieces of equipment from the Street Department and replacing them with a Ventrac Tractor from JBT Power for $37,045 and a stand-on blower from Robertsdale Power Equipment for $11,192.
• Discuss the transfer of funds from the capital budget to the operational budget in Vector Control for small tools and equipment.
• Set a public hearing for nuisance weeds at 24269 Bay View Drive and order it cleaned up.
• Consider using money collected for impact fees for the Pilgrim Street extension project.
• Discuss appointing Jessica Gosa to the Foley Library Board.
• Consider allowing Brett Gaar to encroach on the right-of-way of South Alston Street to build a balcony and an outside staircase.
• Discuss additional improvements to Mel Roberts Park, paid for with leftover funds from an earlier improvement project. Parks and Recreations wants to use $295,000 to install irrigation, new sod for the baseball fields, a barn and rebuild the backstop and netting on the largest baseball field.
• Consider the purchase of MacroAir fan systems for Fire Stations No. 1 and No. 2 for $9,803.
• Discuss approving the use of Heritage Park for the Society of Black Hats Foley Witches Ride and after party on Oct. 25.
• Discuss declaring a John Deere gator in the Parks and Recreation Department as surplus.
• Consider approving $40,000 to replace microwave equipment on communication towers. The quote is for $28,922 and the extra would be used for any unforeseen issues during the project.
• Discuss approving road closures in downtown on Oct. 30 for the annual Hometown Halloween celebration.
• Discuss appointing Steve Bailey to the Board of Adjustments and Appeals.
• Consider a resolution approving an additional $20,000 for the city conference room renovation, taking the total to $120,000.
• Discuss approving a budget increase to make needed repairs to the Justice Center generator for $30,217.
• Consider approving the use of Heritage Park for the Gulf Shores First Baptist community block party on July 24.
