New Foley Activity Center created from old armory

Foley Activity Center Dedication

Foley, AL. — (GSN) — The City of Foley is continuing its commitment to enhancing resident services by revitalizing existing facilities and upgrading municipal infrastructure. A primary highlight of this ongoing effort is the dedication of the new Foley Activity Center at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5. Located at 315 E. Jessamine Ave., the city converted the former National Guard armory into a $1.97 million facility that combines recreational spaces and municipal offices. The invitation-only dedication event will recognize National Guard members who served at the armory as well as individuals involved in the renovation.

The Activity Center project is part of a larger strategy in Foley to optimize city-owned facilities and create modern spaces for the community:

  • Activity Center: Transforming the historic National Guard armory gives the community dedicated indoor recreational areas while simultaneously accommodating municipal staff and operations.
  • Foley Community Library: Following the library's move to its expanded 40,000-square-foot location at 230 E. Orange Ave., the city is repurposing the former library building on Laurel Avenue. The ground floor is designated to become a larger municipal Senior Center, while the second floor will host administrative offices.
  • Aquatics Center: To replace the city’s outdoor pool built in 1953, Foley is developing a new indoor Aquatics Center in Max Griffin Park, enabling year-round swimming, therapy, and swim team practices. Once complete, the site of the original outdoor pool can be repurposed for new park features, such as a splash pad or pavilion.

By creatively adapting existing structures and expanding public facilities, Foley continues to meet the needs of its growing population of approximately 32,000 residents efficiently.
