Long awaited upgrade will help City with future traffic

Gulf Shores road news

The Baldwin County Commission and the City of Gulf Shores have joined forces to begin the first project under the new 30 Cubed Program. This initiative will improve the busy intersection at County Road 6 and State Highway 59. The project aims to reduce traffic delays, improve safety, and support future growth. Local leaders say this collaboration is key to keeping the region moving forward.

The announcement was made on May 20, 2025, after both governments signed an intergovernmental agreement. The construction will include road design, utility work, permitting, and inspection services. The project’s total cost is $11.1 million.

The City of Gulf Shores and Baldwin County will each fund half of the project. Gulf Shores is contributing $5.55 million, with the County matching that amount. This cost-sharing model helps both governments manage large infrastructure projects together.

Mayor Robert Craft said the city already had the intersection improvements designed and ready. He called the project a perfect match for the 30 Cubed Program. He said teamwork like this benefits all residents and visitors.

The 30 Cubed Program was created to build stronger partnerships between Baldwin County and its cities. It supports projects that increase roadway capacity and regional connectivity. It also helps cities meet growing transportation needs.

The County says the program allows any city in Baldwin County to apply for support. It provides funding and technical help for projects that meet shared transportation goals. As Baldwin County grows, the program will be key to building a more connected future.
