Several runoff elections were needed in local towns

Gulf Shores was not alone in needing a runoff election to decide the future leadership of the city. Four towns in Baldwin County and five in Mobile County had runoff elections on Tuesday. While the voter turnout is much lower for these events, the municipalities still have to pay cost for machinery, staff and security at the polls.
In Gulf Shores incumbent Joe Garris Jr. maintained his City Council seat for Place 1. He was able to beat his opponent, Austin Boyd, by 81 votes. Only 1,363 people voted in Gulf Shores for the runoff.
In Robertsdale there is officially a new Mayor. Ruthie Campbell narrowly defeated Russell Johnson by 38 votes. The prior Mayor had served for 8 terms.
Also in Robertsdale the Place 2 council spot was won by Adam Manning.
Stephanie Ganey-Messinger won the Daphne City Council, District 5 runoff on Tuesday. Ganey-Messinger defeated Steve McArthur with 57.3% of the vote.
