City prepares for new beach concert coming in May

During the Gulf Shores City Council meeting this week several departments described their plans for the upcoming 'Sand In My Boots' concert, featuring Morgan Wallen. The new event will replace the Hangout Festival and the estimated 40,000 tickets sold out within ninety minutes of the online announcement.

Grant Brown, the Director of Recreation & Cultural Affairs, presented the plan for a Public Assembly Permit for the concert. The event is scheduled for May 15 - 18, 2025.

The area footprint for the festival will take place in and around the Hangout, Gulf Shores public beach, surrounding parking lots and public roadways, including part of Gulf Beach Blvd..

A pre-show will kick off the event on Thursday, May 15 and will occur between 5-11 PM. The music schedule for the remaining days will start at noon each day and end at 11 PM. Mr. Brown stated that two public parking lots would stop allowing usage starting May the 5th.

It was also stated that the public beach in front of the Hangout would be closed for 10 days around the event.  (Monday, May 12 - Wednesday, May 21)

A shuttle program will be implemented to relieve pedestrian and vehicle traffic along surrounding roadways and to mitigate limited parking availability for area events. TMS, who has been operating local event shuttles in the past, will have three operations throughout the festival (see below).

Other Sand In My Boots Festival Arrangements Include:

  • There will be a number of free water stations for guests
  • An aerial fireworks show will take place at the end of the Friday, Saturday and Sundays shows
  • There will be four access points to the gulf waters at Artist Beach, Monster Beach, Malibu and Beach Barn
  • The City will be monitoring the beach access throughout the event
  • Amplified sound will end at 11 PM each day

Local Ambassadors will be available at entrances to provide information and directions to visitors. They will also act as a point of reference between residents and the festival.

Grant Brown added that the City's staff had reviewed all of the documents and recommends approval of the permit. He added that any expense, including overtime pay, would be reimbursed by the event organization.
