Honoring Those Who Protect The Communities

Those who protect and serve are honored nationwide

News in Gulf Shores, Alabama

In the past the Gulf Shores Police Department consisted of a small cinder block building and the force struggled to keep a few cars clean and running. Now we are near the inception of a new justice center and the GSPD are driving stylish Jeeps and unmarked cars.

As we think about the new equipment for these officers we must always remember that they put their lives on the line every day to protect local residents and to serve the community. The Police protect our kids at school, they keep thieves and thugs from doing harm to homes and businesses. Most of all the enforce the laws so that we can enjoy this small slice of paradise.

John Locke famously said, "Where there is no law, there is no freedom".

Communities along Alabama’s Gulf Coast are taking time this week to honor the men and women who serve and protect during National Police Week, a time set aside to recognize the dedication, bravery, and sacrifice of law enforcement officers across the country.

In Gulf Shores, the police department continues to grow and evolve alongside the city itself. Officers are trained in multiple specialties, and new divisions have been established to meet expanding community needs, including airport security and marine operations. Interim Chief Dan Netemeyer and his team emphasize transparency, communication, and responsiveness, making community policing a cornerstone of their operations.

Orange Beach Police Department

The Orange Beach Police Department, under the direction of Chief Steve Brown, is well known for its proactive approach to law enforcement. Officers regularly engage with the community through school programs, safety initiatives, and neighborhood patrols. The department also operates marine and beach patrols, uniquely suited to the coastal environment. Their presence at local events and involvement in youth outreach have strengthened community trust and visibility.

Foley Police Department

Led by Chief Thurston Bullock, the Foley Police Department places a strong focus on specialized units, community education, and technological innovation. The department runs an in-house training academy, hosts citizen engagement programs like Kids Camp and forensics seminars, and maintains a presence at nearly every major city event. Their commitment to public service is evident in both emergency response and daily operations.

Community Appreciation

During National Police Week, local leaders and residents alike have taken to social media and public forums to thank officers for their hard work and dedication. Ceremonies, lunches, and small acts of gratitude have appeared throughout Baldwin County as part of the observance.

Whether patrolling highways, working crime scenes, or mentoring youth, officers in Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, and Foley continue to serve with professionalism and compassion. This week is a chance for the community to reflect on the role these departments play in making the Gulf Coast a safe and welcoming place for all.

CONGRATULATIONS to all the GSPD family members who were able to attend this week's park outing. Thank you for sharing  your loved one's time so they can protect our residents!
