Gulf Shores High School has chosen Laura Davis as its new head volleyball coach. Davis has a long history of success, both as a player and as a coach. She is known for helping student-athletes grow on and off the court. School leaders say her experience and leadership make her a great fit for the Dolphins.

The announcement was made by Gulf Shores City Schools on May 29, 2025. Davis has already spent three years with the Dolphins as a varsity assistant and junior varsity coach. She moved to Gulf Shores three years ago and has helped build a strong team culture since then.

Davis grew up in Huntsville, Alabama, and played volleyball at Grissom High School. She later played Division I volleyball at the University of Alabama at Birmingham as an outside hitter. At UAB, she led her team in kills and digs, earned All-Tournament honors, and served as President of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee.

Before coming to Gulf Shores, Davis coached at several top Alabama high schools, including Hoover, Spain Park, Homewood, and Bob Jones. At Bob Jones, she led the team to a state championship in 2008 and a runner-up finish in 2007. She has also been named Coach of the Year by The Huntsville Times and The Birmingham News.

Davis said she is honored to lead the Gulf Shores volleyball program. She hopes to help every athlete grow in skill, confidence, and character. School officials are excited to see the positive impact she will have on the team and the community.

High school volleyball keeps growing in popularity across the nation, with strong programs at the high school and club levels. It's the second most popular team sport for girls at the high school level, trailing only outdoor track and field.
