Facility joins network of South Baldwin boating access points

A new public boat ramp on County Road 6 in Bon Secour was officially opened today during a ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by the Baldwin County Commissioners.

The ceremony, held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 24, marked the completion of the long-awaited boat access to the Bon Secour River, providing boaters and fishermen with improved access to local waterways. Construction took about 1 year to complete.

Governor Ivey committed the State of Alabama to providing $4.82 million in State GOMESA funding to help bring this long-awaited project to fruition while the Baldwin County Commission committed $1.5 million dollars in County GOMESA funding, and an additional $2.6 million of local County funds to support the project.

The new boat ramp facility, located at 5587 County Rd 6 in Gulf Shores (see map above), features concrete launch lanes, kayak launch, fishing pier and ample parking for vehicles with trailers. In addition to the boater amenities, the park features walking trails under majestic live oak trees. The facility will be open to the public daily from sunrise to sunset.

The Launch at C.R. 6 property covers 15 acres and features more than 900 feet of frontage along the Bon Secour River. The park includes two boat launches and illuminated parking areas for both vehicles and boat trailers. Visitors can enjoy fishing from dedicated piers, relax in covered pavilions equipped with picnic tables, and access restroom facilities. An 8-foot-wide pedestrian trail encircles the entire park, allowing guests to explore the property.
