Tourism leaders see promise in unique accommodations

Gulf shores glamping news

Orange Beach officials and community members gathered to celebrate the opening of a new glamping site named "Young's Hideaway" in honor of longtime residents Cecil and Jesse Young. The project adds a unique accommodation option to the Alabama Gulf Coast.

Mayor Tony Kennon recalled childhood camping memories from camping on Little Lagoon in an Army surplus tent, noting how this glamping experience offers modern comforts while capturing the nostalgic feel of traditional camping. "It's as close as you can get to those good old days," he said.

The site was developed through a partnership between the City of Orange Beach, the Young family, Brett Robinson, and Timberline Glamping. The project evolved from an initial plan for mini cabins into the current glamping concept.

Heather Adams from Timberline Glamping shared how a single phone call in October 2023 changed her family's life. By March 2024, they had sold their home in Texas and moved to Orange Beach to manage the new venture.

Tom Young expressed gratitude for naming the site after his parents, who have lived across the street for over 30 years. His mother has connections to Orange Beach dating back to the 1940s during World War II.

Cecil Young, age 96, spoke movingly about his wife Jesse's love for Orange Beach. "She started here since about 12 years old," he shared, adding that the area has been central to their family for generations.

Tourism officials noted that travel writers have already begun visiting the glamping site, with plans to publish stories about this new accommodation option along Alabama's beaches.

Philip West from Coastal Resources was recognized as instrumental in bringing the project to fruition, working through various challenges to make the glamping site a reality.

The event concluded with a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating this addition to Orange Beach's recreational offerings.
