A Towering Achievement for Orange Beach Surf Rescue

Orange Beach, Ala. — (GSN) — Orange Beach Surf Rescue has introduced a new enclosed lifeguard tower, known as Tower 5, at the Gulf State Park Romar Beach Access. Built with support from the mayor and City Council, the new structure provides lifeguards with an improved field of view over the surrounding shoreline and offers essential protection during severe weather conditions.
Strategic Infrastructure Upgrades
The Orange Beach City Council unanimously approved the purchase of Tower 5 in March 2026 for $82,835. This addition marks a significant step in the city's ongoing efforts to improve working conditions for guards and enhance overall beach safety.
Tower 5 is the third enclosed tower added to the city's network. The timeline of these installations includes:
- 2024: Tower 2 installed at Alabama Point East.
- 2025: Tower 3 installed at Cotton Bayou Beach.
- 2026: Tower 5 completed at Gulf State Park Romar Beach Access.
Lifeguard Coverage Locations
Orange Beach currently operates six lifeguard tower locations along its coastline. In addition to the enclosed towers, the city maintains:
- Tower 1: Shell Beach.
- Tower 4: Resident Beach Access at Coastal Orange Beach.
- Tower 6: Near The Oasis at Orange Beach.

City officials emphasize that beach safety remains a top priority and offer the following guidance for residents and visitors:
- Swim Near Lifeguards: Always choose to swim in areas monitored by a lifeguard.

- Leave Only Footprints: Visitors are asked to remove all belongings from the beach at the end of each day to keep the area clean.
