A Towering Achievement for Orange Beach Surf Rescue

Orange Beach Lifeguard Towers

Orange Beach, Ala. — (GSN) — Orange Beach Surf Rescue has introduced a new enclosed lifeguard tower, known as Tower 5, at the Gulf State Park Romar Beach Access. Built with support from the mayor and City Council, the new structure provides lifeguards with an improved field of view over the surrounding shoreline and offers essential protection during severe weather conditions.

Strategic Infrastructure Upgrades

The Orange Beach City Council unanimously approved the purchase of Tower 5 in March 2026 for $82,835. This addition marks a significant step in the city's ongoing efforts to improve working conditions for guards and enhance overall beach safety.

Tower 5 is the third enclosed tower added to the city's network. The timeline of these installations includes:

  • 2024: Tower 2 installed at Alabama Point East.
  • 2025: Tower 3 installed at Cotton Bayou Beach.
  • 2026: Tower 5 completed at Gulf State Park Romar Beach Access.

Lifeguard Coverage Locations

Orange Beach currently operates six lifeguard tower locations along its coastline. In addition to the enclosed towers, the city maintains:

  • Tower 1: Shell Beach.
  • Tower 4: Resident Beach Access at Coastal Orange Beach.
  • Tower 6: Near The Oasis at Orange Beach.

Safety Recommendations for Beachgoers

City officials emphasize that beach safety remains a top priority and offer the following guidance for residents and visitors:

  • Swim Near Lifeguards: Always choose to swim in areas monitored by a lifeguard.
  • Stay Informed: Text "ALBEACHES" to 888777 to receive daily beach conditions and flag status updates.
  • Daily Reports: Call 251-981-SURF (7873) for a recorded report on current weather and surf conditions.
  • Leave Only Footprints: Visitors are asked to remove all belongings from the beach at the end of each day to keep the area clean.
