After serving the City of Orange Beach, with unwavering commitment for over two decades, Grimes has taken up the mantle as the new City Administrator for the City of Hoover. Ford Handley will take over Ken's duties at the City of Orange Beach.

In recognition of his unparalleled service and dedication to the City of Orange Beach, a special farewell reception was hosted by the City of Orange Beach in Ken Grimes' honor at the Coastal Art Center Tuesday evening. The event was a heartfelt gathering of city officials, colleagues, friends, and community members who have worked alongside Grimes throughout his tenure. The Coastal Art Center, with its serene waterfront views and artistic ambiance, serves as the perfect backdrop to celebrate Grimes' legacy in Orange Beach and to wish him well on his new journey in Hoover.

Born in Bessemer, Alabama, Grimes' educational journey saw him graduate from Troy State University with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing. He furthered his academic pursuits with a Master of Science in Economic Development from the University of Southern Mississippi. His early career saw him serve the Bessemer Area Chamber of Commerce, first as the Director of Economic Development and later as its President. His leadership skills were further honed when he took on the role of President and CEO of the Alabama Gulf Coast Area Chamber of Commerce in 2001.

In November 2002, Grimes began his municipal career with the City of Orange Beach as the Special Projects Coordinator. His dedication and prowess saw him rise through the ranks, and by 2008, he was appointed the City Administrator. In this role, he not only managed the operations of a city with nearly 400 full-time employees and an annual budget of $70,000,000, but also simultaneously served as the Parks and Recreation Director. His contributions to the city were recognized in 2016 when he was awarded the Sam Gaston Vocational Excellence Award by the Alabama City County Management Association. By November 2022, Grimes had taken on the role of Director of External Affairs for the City of Orange Beach.

As reported by al.com, Grimes has been appointed as the city administrator for Hoover, replacing Allan Rice. Hoover Mayor Frank V. Brocato praised Grimes for his extensive experience and capabilities, especially in areas like disaster management, economic development, and government finances. As the city administrator, Grimes will be the second-highest-ranking public official in Hoover, overseeing all city operations and working closely with elected officials, city departments, and residents.

Grimes expressed his excitement about leading the City of Hoover and emphasized the city's vision of "infinite possibilities." He believes that with teamwork, communication, fiscal responsibility, and respect, there are truly unlimited opportunities to grow Hoover for future generations.
