The Classic is a favorite for anglers and fans alike

Fishing News in Gulf Shores

On the Alabama coast we love catching really big fish! We also celebrate those who are able to battle for hours against the elements of the deep. The Orange Beach Billfish Classic is celebrating its 29th year as a premier Gulf Coast fishing tournament. The event draws skilled anglers competing for more than $1 million in prize money. It will be held at The Wharf in Orange Beach, Alabama. Organizers expect a strong turnout of fishing teams this year.

The tournament will run from May 13 to May 18, 2025. Competitors will challenge the Gulf’s toughest game fish during several days of action. A tournament representative said they are excited to welcome anglers back for another great year. The event has grown into one of the region’s biggest fishing tournaments.

Participants will compete in Catch and Release, Blue Marlin, Tuna, Wahoo, and Dolphin divisions. The tournament highlights both fishing skill and conservation practices. Strict rules require using non-offset circle hooks when using natural bait. This method helps protect billfish populations during catch and release.

Teams can enter various optional cash award categories. Options include the Release Division, Blue Marlin Division, Tuna Division, Wahoo Division, and Dolphin Division. The weigh station will be set up at The Wharf Marina. Spectators are invited to watch the weigh-ins and enjoy the excitement.

The tournament also supports conservation and local charities. Part of the proceeds benefits The Billfish Foundation and other marine conservation groups. Registration is open through the official website. Teams can find entry forms, rules, and the full schedule at the Orange Beach Billfish Classic
website

Tournament activities include a captain’s meeting, fishing days, weigh-ins, and an awards ceremony. The event creates a festive atmosphere for participants and visitors alike. Many anglers view the tournament as the unofficial start of the Gulf Coast’s competitive fishing season. Success here often sets the tone for the summer.

Local businesses see a boost during the tournament week. Hotels, restaurants, and marine service providers benefit from the busy crowds. For more information, visitors can check the official website or contact organizers directly.
