Unbeaten Makos are ranked in National Polls

Gulf Shores Area Sports News

The Orange Beach Makos Softball team's current record is an impressive 17-0 for the 2023-24 season, demonstrating their exceptional performance and dominance on the field. They've maintained a perfect winning streak, marking their journey with significant wins both at home and away. The team has outscored their opponents significantly with Kaylee Favors batting a .585 average. Daigle Wilson has stolen 30 bases and scored 34 runs. Ava Hodo puts the team over the top with a 26 RBI and a 1.2 slugging percentage.

Currently, the Makos are ranked #4 by highschool.si.com and #5 by MaxPreps.com.

For the remainder of the year, the Makos have an exciting lineup of games scheduled against both local and out-of-state teams. Key matchups include games against Bob Jones, Alabama Christian Academy, Central, and Northside, among others. They will also face Spanish Fort again, a team they've already demonstrated their prowess against earlier in the season. A notable game on their schedule is a rematch against Pace, providing an opportunity for an exhilarating competition.

MaxPreps wrote "Orange Beach put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They never let the Ocean Springs Greyhounds onto the board and left with an 8-0 victory. Considering Orange Beach has won 14 matches by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new."

Kaylee Favors was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and only two hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Favors has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive pitching appearances. Favors was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two RBI and a double.

The Makos Softball Team still has a tough remaining schedule for the season. The last game will be against national rival Pace, who they beat earlier this season.

Tracking fish with sonar has been available to the public since 1948, when the famous Furuno brothers introduced the product in their native Japan. A 'salty' charter captain might add that it was Lowrance that brought it to the U.S. fishing market. But whomever you credit, NOAA has now combined it with artificial intelligence (AI) to provide better chart mapping and even fish count locations of fish in the gulf. The results could impact local fishing seasons in the future.

Coach Brewer has piloted the Dolphins bus to this place several times this season, but today a thick, milky fog has engulfed the panorama, limiting the vision of what’s ahead, save for head coach Jason Hill. He’s studied today’s upcoming events and is hopeful for the upset.
