Orange Beach, Ala. – (GSN) – In the past few years, Orange Beach has been buying up properties along the south side of Canal Road from behind the Circle K store east almost to Shore Acres. The only exceptions are lots owned by PowerSouth north of the Justice Center and two lots on the east end that remain privately owned. The owners of the two-acre parcel directly west of Shore Acres are seeking to subdivide the parcel into six single-family residences.

The Orange Beach Planning Commission will entertain the request at its May 11 regular meeting at 4 p.m. The commission will meet in an informal work session at 3 p.m.

There are two lots, one fronting Canal Road and one directly behind it, both listed in tax records as being owned by Web Capital and the McLarty Family Partnership. Before 2026, the north lot was listed as owned by Robert Callaway and the south by Beverly Callaway, according to Baldwin County tax records. A home recently torn down on the north lot was listed as being built in 1940.

Directly west of these lots is the last home on the stretch of Canal Road between State Route 161 and the Florida Street right-of-way. Tax records show the lot has been owned by the Harms family since 1994, and the home was built in 2002, according to tax records.

The Florida Street right of way runs south from Canal Road west of Shore Acres to behind the lots on Canal, then west through the Justice Center complex, continuing across State Route 161 to intersect with Canal Road again near Big Mike’s Steakhouse.

The top item on the official agenda for the Pirates Voyage Dinner Theater will be withdrawn and will not be discussed, according to City Administrator Ford Handley. During the regular session, the commission will also discuss:

• A minor subdivision to replat a vacated 30 feet of Michigan Street into two lots located at 26830 and 26850 Moses Road, zoned single-family residential. The request by Lucido Engineering is for owners David and Sara Bridewell, who own the lot at 26830 Moses Road, and Paige Plash and Carolyn Plash, who own the lot at 26850 Moses Road.
• Adding a bumper car feature at Bubba’s Mini Golf on the north side of beach road in West Orange Beach.
• Subdividing a lot at 26063 Marina Road into two lots for H&J Investments. The lot is in the northeast corner of the intersection of Marina Road and State Route 161.
• Site plans for the Terrell office building are located in the southwest corner of the intersection of Lauder Lane and Canal Road. This item was deferred from the April 13 meeting.
• A plan to repurpose a parking area at Wind Drift Condominium for overflow parking for the complex, which has units on the Gulf and Old River.
• Amending the parking area for the Orange Beach Community Church located at 4773 Bay Circle.
