Assistant Police Chief Retires After 30 Years

If you have lived in Orange Beach for more than a few years then you are probably familiar with a face in law enforcement. Not that you have run-ins with the law, but Chief Howard represent the City's Police Department at many functions. He was always in his pressed uniform and a warm smile.


Last Friday marked the end of an incredible chapter in the history of the Orange Beach Police Department as they honored Assistant Chief Robert Howard #101 with his final radio call.


The OBPD released the following statement: "With deep respect and heartfelt gratitude, we celebrated his unwavering dedication, leadership, and decades of service to our department and the Orange Beach community. Assistant Chief Howard has been a pillar of strength, professionalism, and integrity throughout his career. His impact will be felt for generations to come.


Thank you, #101, for your tireless service, your steady hand, and your commitment to making Orange Beach a safer place. You will always be part of the OBPD family.


Effective June 1st, 2025, Assistant Chief Robert Howard, Badge Number 101 will retire from the Orange Beach Police Department after 30 years of service.


Assistant Chief Howard began his career with the Orange Beach Police Department in January of 1995 when he was hired on as a part time officer. Shortly after, he was hired as a full time officer in October of 1995.


During his 30 years of service, Assistant Chief Howard served under many divisions and ranks, to include the Dive Team, Firearms & Taser Instructor, Special Response Team, Corporal, Sergeant, Lieutenant and Assistant Chief where he will retire.


While your watch may be over, the lives you've touched and the difference you've made will continue to resonate. Congratulations on a well earned retirement."
