Orange Beach City Schools have achieved Cognia Accreditation less than two years after opening. Cognia, a nonprofit providing quality assurance, recognized the district for meeting certain, rigorous standards.

Cognia, formerly known as AdvancED, evaluates schools on productive learning environments, resource allocation, and leadership. Orange Beach City Schools went through a thorough self-assessment and evaluation by Cognia experts. The district met research-based standards and evidence-based criteria, earning national recognition for its commitment to continuous improvement.

Cognia's website states "We are a global network of enthusiastic educators here to help you strengthen your schools. Our holistic approach to continuous improvement encompasses accreditation and certification, assessment, professional learning, and customized improvement services. Like you, we want all students to have the opportunities that knowledge brings. Are you ready to lead your education community to new levels?"

Superintendent Randy Wilkes highlighted the significance of this achievement. "This accreditation reflects our dedication to excellence and commitment to providing the best education for our students," he said.

To gain Cognia accreditation, a school district must implement a continuous improvement process and undergo both internal and external reviews. Accredited schools maintain their status for six years.

Dr. Mark A. Elgart, president and CEO of Cognia, stated, “Cognia Accreditation is a rigorous process that focuses the entire school and its community on the primary goal of preparing lifelong learners in engaging environments where all students can flourish. Orange Beach City Schools is to be commended for demonstrating that it has met high standards and is progressing on key indicators that impact student learning.”

Orange Beach City Schools received an Index of Education Quality Score of 329, surpassing Cognia’s average of 253. The district earned perfect ratings in stakeholder feedback, student performance, and other key areas. All 30 quality indicators were rated as either satisfactory or exemplary.
