Senior Center Chili Cook-Off Brings Community Together for Spicy Competition

Seven teams will compete in the Orange Beach Senior Center’s annual Chili Cook-Off, serving up their best recipes to hungry judges and community members. The friendly competition brings together local senior care organizations and a few mystery contestants who are keeping everyone guessing. It's more than just a contest, though, as the event celebrates community spirit and brings neighbors together for good food and entertainment.

The chili showdown takes place tomorrow, Wednesday, October 29th, with tasting running from 4 to 6 p.m. Live music by Justin Colvard will keep the atmosphere lively from 4 to 7 p.m. Winners will be announced at 6:30 p.m., when one lucky team will claim bragging rights for the year.

Several well-known organizations have signed up to compete in this year's cook-off. Live Oak Village Independent and Assisted Living will face off against Community Hospice and Haven Memory Care. SouthernCare, Family Nest Estate Solutions of Coastal Alabama, and Diversicare of Foley round out the known competitors.

Two surprise participants are also entering the competition, adding an extra element of excitement to the event. Their identities remain a closely guarded secret, building anticipation among regular attendees. These mystery chefs could shake up the traditional competition with unexpected flavors and cooking styles.

The event offers attendees a chance to sample different chili styles and vote for their favorites. Each team brings its own unique recipe, from traditional Texas-style to more adventurous variations. Some competitors use family recipes passed down through generations, while others experiment with bold new flavor combinations.

Local musician Justin Colvard will provide entertainment throughout the evening with live performances. His music creates a festive atmosphere that complements the cooking competition. Attendees can enjoy their chili samples while listening to live tunes and catching up with friends and neighbors.

The combination of great food, live music, and friendly competition makes it a perfect evening out for people of all ages.
